1.Announcement
・For those who wish to apply for Admission Fee Exemption , Deferred Payment, and Tuition Fee Exemption in 2023 (updated 7th February)
We have released the eligibility and application procedures for the 2023 Admission Fee Exemption, Deferred Payment, and Tuition Fee Exemption. Please check it if you wish to apply.
2.Admission Fee Exemption System
There is an exemption system for students who have difficulty in paying Admission fee due to a financial reason.
Your admission fee can be exempted within the limit of our budget. Eligibility for application, financial situation of your family, and scholastic attainments is considered on the basis of our standards.
Deferred Payment of your admission fee means that the deadline of collection is postponed. However, it is required to pay the same full amount of admission fee.
Since the application for the exemption or deferred payment of the admission fee also serves as the application for the tuition fee exemption, please refer to ② Procedure of application and complete the procedures for both the application for the exemption or deferment of the admission fee and the tuition fee exemption.
①Students eligible for Admission Fee Exemption System
There are differences between Undergraduate enrolled students and Graduate enrolled students. Applicants must meet any of the following eligibility for application.
Undergraduate enrolled students
【Students eligible for Admission Fee Exemption Application】
Students who face extreme difficulty in paying their admission fee because within one year before enrolling in the university their household supporter (i.e. father) has died. |
Students who face extreme difficulty in paying their admission fee because within one year before enrolling in the university students who themselves and/or their household supporter have suffered from a natural disaster such as a storm or flood. |
Those who are the main household supporter or those who have been affected by the following catastrophic disaster. The target catastrophic disasters: Storm and heavy rain in August, September 2019/Typhoon 19, 2019 /Heavy rain in July 2020 |
As of 1st April 2023 (or 1st October 2023), those who have two or more applicable items in the following ① to ⑤ and are extremely difficult to pay the admission fee.
① The household supporter has been receiving medical treatment for 6 months or more due to illness or accident. ② The household supporter is a physically handicapped person. ③ Within one year before enrollment, the household supporter lost his/her job or the company he/she runs went bankrupt. ④ It is a livelihood protection household. ⑤ Single-parent family |
※These qualifications must be met by the individual residing in Japan or by the person responsible for financing the study who resides in Japan.
【Students eligible for Deferred Payment of Admission Fee Application】
Students eligible to apply for admission fee exemption. |
As of 1st April 2023 (or 1st October 2023), those who have one or more applicable items in the following ① to ⑤ and are extremely difficult to pay the admission fee. ① The household supporter has been receiving medical treatment for 6 months or more due to illness or accident. ② The household supporter is a physically handicapped person. ③ Within one year before enrollment, the household supporter lost his/her job or the company he/she runs went bankrupt. ④ It is a livelihood protection household. ⑤ Single-parent family |
※These qualifications must be met by the individual residing in Japan or by the person responsible for financing the study who resides in Japan.
Graduate enrolled students
【Students eligible for Admission Fee Exemption Application and Deferred Payment】
Students who have difficulty in paying their admission fee for financial reasons (excluding loan repayment or other debt), and who are moreover recognized as excellent academic achievers. |
Students who face extreme difficulty in paying their admission fee because within one year before enrolling in the university students who themselves and/or their household supporter have suffered from a natural disaster such as a storm or flood. |
Those who are the main household supporter or those who have been affected by the following catastrophic disaster. The target catastrophic disasters: Storm and heavy rain in August, September 2019/ Typhoon 19, 2019 /Heavy rain in July 2020 |
※These qualifications must be met by the individual residing in Japan or by the person responsible for financing the study who resides in Japan.
② Procedure of application
There are differences between Undergraduate enrolled students and Graduate enrolled students.
The application for admission fee exemption (deferred payment) also serves as the application for tuition fee exemption. If the tuition fee exemption procedure is not completed, the application for admission fee exemption (deferred payment) will be denied.
Undergraduate enrolled students
1. Select <Admission Fee Exemption> in [Payment Details] on the Payment Page of the Web-based Admission Procedure System If you select the Admission Fee Exemption, the amount of premium payment will be displayed. Please pay only the insurance premium out of the enrollment payment. |
2. Submit the Admission Fee (Deferred Payment) Application Please submit "Nagoya University Admission Fee Exemption and Deferred Payment of Admission Fee Application Form". Apply Through Tuition Fee Exemption Application System After Enrollment Please enter your application information into the tuition fee exemption application system within the application period. 【Application Period】Wednesday, 12th April - Monday, 24th April 2023 noon (JST) [PUNCTUAL] For details, please check the Procedure of application for Tuition Fee Exemption section. |
4. Submit the Required Documents Displayed in Tuition Fee Exemption Application System by the Deadline Please submit your application documents at the document 【Submission site】. If you are unable to submit the documents at the above submission site, please submit them by [Postal mail] or in person at the Student Support Division counter by the deadline. For details, please check the Procedure of application for Tuition Fee Exemption section. |
Graduate enrolled students
1. Submit the Admission Fee (Deferred Payment) Application At the time of admission procedure, please submit "Nagoya University Admission Fee Exemption and Deferred Payment of Admission Fee Application Form". ※ Please follow the instructions of the graduate school in which you plan to enroll for submission and submission deadlines. |
2. Apply Through Tuition Fee Exemption Application System After Enrollment Please enter your application information into the tuition fee exemption application system within the application period. 【Application Period】Wednesday, 12th April - Monday, 24th April 2023 noon (JST) [PUNCTUAL] For details, please check the Procedure of application for Tuition Fee Exemption section. |

③Amount of Admission Fee Exemption
Full amount or half amount of admission fee that is supposed to be paid is exempted.
They were exempted half amount of admission fee latest few years.
④Application Form
Print "Nagoya University Admission Fee Exemption and Deferred Payment of Admission Fee Application Form" from Nagoya University website.
⑤Section in charge of distribution and acceptance
The office in charge of accepting applications is following: (They will inform along with admission procedure.)
For all undergraduate enrolled students: Student Support Division
For all graduate enrolled students: Office of each department or course
※Documents concerning tuition fee exemption should be submitted to the Student Support Division.
⑥Application Result
Standard schedule of notification of application result
Enrolled students for spring semester: In middle of July
Enrolled students for fall semester: In middle of December
Notification of results will be made through the "Educational Affairs system".

When the notification date is set, it will be posted on the university website, so please check it as appropriate and come to pick it up.
※Notification will not be made by postal mail or over the counter.
⑦Notes
・Admission fee is not refunded if it is paid before your application for Admission Fee Exemption or Deferred Payment of your admission fee is approved.
・If an application is filed, payment will be deferred until the debit date indicated in the notice of results.
・Applicants (students) are asked about the financial situation of their family and so forth. In principle, confirmation and missing documents will be sent to the THERS e-mail address.
・Students are expelled if they do not pay admission fee on or before the deadline, excluding the case where they are permitted full exemption.
3.Tuition Fee Exemption System
There is an exemption system for students who have difficulty in paying tuition fees due to a financial reason.
Your tuition can be exempted within the limit of our budget. Eligibility for application, financial situation of your family, and scholastic attainments are considered on the basis of our standards.
①Students eligible for Tuition Fee Exemption Application
Undergraduate students and graduate students (regular students) who have difficulty in paying tuition fees and fall under any of the following are eligible to receive Tuition Fee Exemption based on the selection.
Even if you are a Japanese undergraduate student enrolled after 2020, you will be eligible for the application if you meet the following exemption application qualifications second or later.
Students who face difficulty in paying their tuition fee due to economic reasons (excluding loan repayment or other debt) and are recognized as having excellent academic achievements. |
Students who face extreme difficulty in paying their tuition fee during the time periods designated below because their household supporter has died, or students who themselves and/or their household supporter have suffered from a natural disaster such as a storm or flood. |
Those who are the main household supporter or those who have been affected by the following catastrophic disaster. The target catastrophic disasters: Storm and heavy rain in August, September 2019/ Typhoon 19, 2019 /Heavy rain in July 2020 |
Circumstances similar to those indicated above and approved by the University president. |

②Procedure of application
Note that the system availability period and application period are different for new students entering in 2023 and current students who have been admitted before FY2022.
Students admitted before FY2022
1. Check the "Admission Fee Exemption (Deferred Payment) and Tuition Fee Exemption Application Guidelines Nagoya University FY2023" on the ④Application Form. |
2. Apply Through Tuition Fee Exemption Application System. Tuition Fee Exemption Application System ※If you plan to continue your education on campus, please submit your application during the application period for Students admitted in April 2023. If you plan to continue your education on campus and have already entered your application information, please delete your application information. 【Application Period】 Spring Semester: Fall semester: To Be Determined (scheduled to be posted later August - early September 2023 the university website ※Once the period of availability is exceeded, we will not be able to accept your application. ※This system only guarantees operation in the campus environment. Graduate students can use the system from off-campus by using the VPN service. If you cannot use the on-campus system during the application period due to unavoidable circumstances, please contact the Student Support Division. |

⑦Notes
・Tuition is not refunded if it is paid before your application for Tuition Fee Exemption is approved.
・If an application is filed, payment will be deferred until the debit date indicated in the notice of results.

・If students were subjected to disciplinary action or there were false facts in the contents of the application documents, even after the exemption decision, the exemption permit will be revoked for that period.
・As a general rule, repeaters and those who have exceeded the standard period of study are not eligible for Tuition Fee Exemption Application, but those within one year may be accepted for some reason.
・Make a copy of all the documents you submit and keep them in a safe place until the results are notified. If there are any corrections, you may make corrections and resubmit a copy.
