Admission/Tuition Fee Exemption 

1. Announcement

For those who wish to apply for Admission Fee Exemption , Postponement of Collection, and Tuition Fee Exemption in 2022 (updated on March 4)

We have released the eligibility and application procedures for the 2022 Admission Fee Exemption, Postponement of Collection, and Tuition Fee Exemption. Please check it if you wish to apply.

 

・For students enrolling in 2022 who wish to apply for tuition exemption (updated on March 14)
The period of availability of the tuition fee exemption application system has been shortened.
Please check "New students" in ② Procedure of application in the 3. Tuition Fee Exemption System.

 

2. Admission Fee Exemption System

There is an exemption system for students who have difficulty in paying Admission fee due to a financial reason.

Your admission fee can be exempted within the limit of our budget. Eligibility for application, financial situation of your family, and scholastic attainments are considered on the basis of our standards.

Postponement of Collection of your admission fee means that the deadline of collection is postponed. However, it is required to pay the same full amount of admission fee.

Since the application for the exemption or postponement of collection of the admission fee also serves as the application for the tuition fee exemption, please refer to ② Procedure of application and complete the procedures for both the application for the exemption or deferment of the entrance fee and the tuition fee exemption.

 

Students eligible for Admission Fee Exemption System

There are differences between Undergraduate enrolled students and Graduate enrolled students. Applicants must meet any of the following conditions.

 

Undergraduate enrolled students

Students eligible for Admission Fee Exemption Application

  • Within one year before a student enters the university, ① the person who bears school expenses (example: father) has died, or ② the person who bears school expenses or the applicant has suffered damage from a storm and/or a flood and therefore has extreme difficulty in paying their admission fee.
  • When there are multiple circumstances such as ① the person who bears school expenses got  unemployed, ② household receiving public assistance, ③ single parent household, ④ the person who bears school expenses is under long-term medical treatment, or ⑤ the person who bears school expenses has physical disabilities are recognized within one year before entering the university.

 

Students eligible for Postponement of Collection of Admission Fee Application

  • When there is any circumstances such as ① the person who bears school expenses got unemployed, ② household receiving public assistance, ③ single parent household, ④ the person who bears school expenses is under long-term medical treatment, ⑤ the person who bears school expenses has physical disabilities, or ⑥ financial reason is recognized within one year before entering the university.
  • A student who has difficulty in paying the admission fee because of a financial reason is recognized as an excellent academic achiever.
  • Under other circumstances correspond the foregoing, it possible to eligible when the president of Nagoya University considers it to be applicable.

 

Graduate enrolled students

Students eligible for Admission Fee Exemption and Postponement of Collection of Admission Fee Application

  • A student who has difficulty in paying the admission fee because of a financial reason is recognized as an excellent academic achiever.
  • Within one year before a student enters the university, ① the person who bears school expenses (example: father) has died, or ② the person who bears school expenses or the applicant has suffered damage from a storm and/or a flood and therefore has extreme difficulty in paying their admission fee.
  • Under other circumstances correspond the foregoing, it possible to eligible when the president of Nagoya University considers it to be applicable.

 

 

Procedure of application 

There are differences between Undergraduate enrolled students and Graduate enrolled students. 

Due to the spread of the COVID-19 infection, the reception method has been changed to mail in principle.

When you send it mail, please be sure to send it in a way that keeps record.

(ex. Registered mail, Letter Pack Light etc.)

Please write in red on the front of the envelope that "Contents: Admission Fee Exemption Document."

 

Undergraduate enrolled students

 1. Please select "I wish to apply for the admission fee exemption or postponement of collection." when you complete the admission procedure at UCARO.

 2. Please submit "Nagoya University Admission Fee Exemption and Postponement of Collection of Admission Fee Application Form" by ④ Application Form and Income Certificate of 2021※1 (content of 2020 income) issued by Ward Office for Student Support Division※2.

Please print out the "Application Form" from ④ Application Form.

※1 Those who have resident registration in Japan on 1st January 2021.

If you are not registered as a resident of Japan as of 1st January, 2021, you do not need to submit this form.

If you are enrolling in October, please submit Income Certificate of 2022(content of 2021 income).

※2 Please check UCARO for submission deadlines.

3. The application for the Admission Fee Exemption and Postponement of Collection is completed by also completing the procedures for the Tuition Fee Exemption application.

Please apply for the tuition fee after enrollment.

Graduate enrolled students

1. When you complete the admission procedure, please submit "Nagoya University Admission Fee Exemption and Postponement of Collection of Admission Fee Application Form" and Income Certificate of 2021※1 (content of 2020 income) issued by Ward Office.

Please print out the "Application Form" from ④ Application Form.

   ※1 Those who have resident registration in Japan on 1st January 2021.

   If you are not registered as a resident of Japan as of 1st January, 2021, you do not need to submit this form.

   If you are enrolling in October, please submit Income Certificate of 2022 (content of 2021 income).

2. The application for the Admission Fee Exemption and Postponement of Collection is completed by also completing the procedures for the Tuition Fee Exemption application.

Please apply for the tuition waiver after enrollment.

Amount of Admission Fee Exemption

Full amount or half amount of admission fee that is supposed to be paid is exempted. In the case of recipients in graduate schools, they were exempted half amount of admission fee latest few years.

For all graduate enrolled students: Office of each department or course

 

Application Result 

Standard schedule of notification of application result

1. Enrolled students for spring semester: In middle of July

2. Enrolled students for fall semester: In middle of December

 

Undergraduate students will be handed over the result of application by the Student Support Division.

Graduate students will be handed over at the counter of the graduate school where they enrolled.

It may change depending on the infection status of the COVID-19.
We will notify you when the result is notified on the Nagoya University website.

 

Payment deadline for half-exemption / non-approval / Postponement of Collection of admission fee

1. Pay within 20 days including the notification day of application result.

2. When postponement of the collection is approved, enrolled students for spring semester pay it by the end of September, enrolled students for fall semester pay it by the end of February.

 

 

Notes

  • Admission fee is not refunded if it is paid before your application for Admission Fee Exemption or Postponement of Collection of your admission fee is approved.
  • Applicants (students) are asked about the financial situation of their family and so forth.
  • Students are expelled if they do not pay admission fee on or before the deadline, excluding the case where they are permitted full exemption.

 

 

3.Tuition Fee Exemption System

There is an exemption system for students who have difficulty in paying tuition fees due to a financial reason.

Your tuition can be exempted within the limit of our budget. Eligibility for application, financial situation of your family, and scholastic attainments are considered on the basis of our standards.

 

 

Students eligible for Tuition Fee Exemption Application

Undergraduate students and graduate students (regular students) who have difficulty in paying tuition fees and fall under any of the following are eligible to receive Tuition Fee Exemption based on the selection.

  • A student who has difficulty in paying the tuition because of a financial reason is recognized as an excellent academic achiever.
  • Within six months before a semester starts (in regard to a new student, within one year before a student enters the university), ① the person who bears school expenses (example: father) has died, or ② the person who bears school expenses or the applicant has suffered damage from a storm and/or a flood and therefore has extreme difficulty in paying their tuition.

※The tuition fee exemption that is based on the eligibility for application due to the direct or indirect effects of the spread of the coronavirus will be announced again as it has not yet been decided whether it will continue in 2022.

 

  Procedure of application

From FY2022, students will need to apply through the "Tuition Fee Exemption Application System" and then submit the documents.

Note that the system availability period and application period are different for new students entering in 2022 and current students who have been enrolled since before 2021.

Tuition Fee Exemption Application System

    Available during the spring semester: (Friday, April 1, 2022) Tuesday, April 12, 2022 to Tuesday, April 19, 2022, 5:00 p.m.

     Available during the fall semester: Undecided

     ※Once the period of availability is exceeded, we will not be able to accept your application.

   ※This system only guarantees operation in the campus environment.

       Graduate students can use the system from off-campus by using the VPN service .

    If you are unable to use the VPN service or have other unavoidable circumstances that prevent you from

coming to the university, please notify the office where you are submitting your application.

  1. Submit the documents displayed in the system by the deadline of the destination.

Check "⑤ Section in charge of distribution and acceptance" for submission address and deadline.

 

New students

  1. Check the "Guide of Admission Fee Exemption and Tuition Fee Exemption Application FY2022" on the ④ Application Form.
  2. Apply from the following "Tuition Fee Exemption Application System," referring to the application guidelines.

Application Result

Fall semester: In middle of December

The result of the application will be announced on NU Portal. Please check it after notification of application result.

 

Notes

  • Tuition is not refunded if it is paid before your application for Tuition Fee Exemption is approved.
  • Applicants (students) are asked about the financial situation of their family and so forth.
  • If students were subjected to disciplinary action or there were false facts in the contents of the application documents, even after the exemption decision, the exemption permit will be revoked for that period.
  • As a general rule, repeaters and those who have exceeded the standard period of study are not eligible for Tuition Fee Exemption Application, but those within one year may be accepted for some reason.
  • Make a copy of all the documents you submit and keep them in a safe place until the results are notified. If there are any corrections, you may make corrections and resubmit a copy.
