Global Engagement

Nagoya University hosts Polytechnique Montréal president and delegates

On Thursday, September 30, 2026, Nagoya University welcomed a delegation from Polytechnique Montréal in Canada, which included their President Maude Cohen, Vice President of Academic Affairs Pierre Langlois, and Strategic Advisor for Asia Delphine Julen. Their visit aimed to strengthen an already established partnership between the two universities.

After lunch on a clear and sunny afternoon, the delegates arrived for a meeting at Toyoda Auditorium, where they were received by Nagoya University President Naoshi Sugiyama, Vice President Yoshiyuki Suto, Professor Tatsuya Suzuki, Dean of the Graduate School of Engineering ; Professors Yutaka Matsuo and Emanuel Leleito from the Graduate School of Engineering; Kusumoto Keiko, Designated Lecturer and Co-ordinator of Student Affairs at NUPACE; and Matthew Linley, Vice-Director of the Global Multi-Campus Institute (GMC).

Following this meeting, the delegates spent the rest of the day touring some of Nagoya University’s applied physics and engineering facilities. This included: 

  • The Center for Integrated Research of Future Electronics, Transformative Electronics Facilities (CTEFs): Designated Asst. Professor Sihoon Choi from the Power Electronics Lab at IMaSS introduced their work on advanced power modules. The delegates also met Raymond Borres, a Nagoya University graduate student who is looking forward to visiting Montreal Polytechnique to do research in January. 
  • Vehicle Test and Analysis Room at the National Innovation Complex (NIC): The visitors got a tour of GREMO vehicles from Professor Tatsuya Suzuki and Professor Hirofumi Aoki. President Cohen enjoyed trying out a car driving simulator. 
  • Intelligent Robotics Laboratory: Assistant Professor Jacinto Colan and graduate students gave live demonstrations of various robots that help with mobility, elderly care, and medical surgery.  

Despite the busy schedule, President Maude remarked that seeing the enthusiasm of students made her feel less tired and more passionate. She looks forward to welcoming some of the research exchange students in Montreal soon.
