The National Youth Eco League, an NGO composed of nationwide student groups, implemented the 2011 National University Survey of Environmental Measures in connection with Nagoya University's efforts in global warming prevention and environmental protection. From a pool of 167 candidates, NagoyaUniversity was ranked the top overall university among 744 universities.
Nagoya University was ranked 5th overall in the previous year's survey. This year in the 3rd annual survey, Nagoya University achieved the top position overall for its overhaul of facilities and other efforts to reduce electricity consumption over previous years, despite a heat wave in 2010. This is the first time a university of more than 10,000 students has achieved this ranking.
