Prof. Koshun Yamaoka Receives 2016 Disaster Prevention Achievement Award from Minister of State for Disaster Management

Professor Koshun Yamaoka of the Earthquake and Volcano Research Center at the Nagoya University Graduate School of Environmental Studies has received the 2016 Disaster Prevention Achievement Award from the Japanese Minister of State for Disaster Management. This award is presented to groups and individuals who have contributed to the prevention of damage in times of disasters, the dissemination of ideas for disaster prevention, or the improvement of disaster prevention systems.

 

Professor Yamaoka received this award for his significant contributions to the improvement of disaster prevention systems. While making remarkable achievements in seismology and volcanology, he has also implemented a wide range of disaster prevention activities based on his advanced research and broad knowledge, such as offering useful opinions to governments in charge of disaster prevention in various occasions, and providing lectures and education to contribute to the improvement of local disaster prevention abilities.
