Honorary Doctor Maki

The Japanese government has announced the recipients of the 2013 Persons of Cultural Merit and Order of Cultural Merit. Among those honored as Persons of Cultural Merit was Nagoya University Honorary Doctor Fumihiko Maki.
The Award of Person of Cultural Merit, one of the nation's highest honors for cultural and artistic excellence second only to the Order of Cultural Merit, is given to persons who have made a significant contribution to the development and enrichment of culture in Japan. Mr. Maki was selected for the Award in recognition of his enormous achievements as a central figure in modern architecture, including large-scale public architectural projects with his signature style of sophisticated and exquisitely designed geometric spaces, which have also gained high international repute and praise.
The Award ceremony will be held in a hotel in Tokyo on Tuesday, November 5, 2013.
