Nagoya University holds entrance ceremony for Fall 2026

On October 1, 2026, Nagoya University held its entrance ceremony for the 2026 academic year at Toyoda Auditorium. The ceremony welcomed 292 new students, including both undergraduate and graduate students from 40 countries around the world.

The ceremony began with the entrance of President Naoshi Sugiyama and university leadership, accompanied by a performance by the Nagoya University Symphony Orchestra. A student from the Graduate School of Economics took the oath on behalf of all incoming students.

At his welcome address, President Sugiyama noted that in a world facing numerous challenges such as ongoing wars, the climate crisis, and rapid development of AI, there has never been a more important time for young students to become empowered to create a brighter future. He urged all incoming students to dream about not only what they hope to achieve during their years at Nagoya University, but also the impact they want to make to the world beyond.

The ceremony also featured a speech of encouragement from Professor Jiro Takai from the Graduate School of Education and Human Development. Speaking as a representative of the university’s faculty and alumni, he advised students to soak into the relaxed, easy atmosphere offered by their new home city of Nagoya, while pursuing creative and new frontiers, and remembering that failure is a crucial part of success.

Nagoya University extends its warmest welcome to all incoming students of Fall 2026 and wishes them success in their academic pursuits.
