On September 11, 2026, Nagoya University welcomed Xavier Bressaud, Counselor for Science and Technology at the Embassy of France in Japan, for a courtesy call on President Naoshi Sugiyama.
The visit began at the Institute for Glyco-core Research (iGCORE), a center for glycoscience, the study of the sugar chains that play key roles in how cells function. iGCORE hosts IRL GlycoMIRAI, an International Research Laboratory (IRL) launched this spring with France’s National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). During his tour, Bressaud met with Chihiro Sato, director of iGCORE at Nagoya University and GlycoMIRAI deputy director; GlycoMIRAI Director Yann Guerardel; and Professor Hiroshi Suzuki.
He then met with President Sugiyama to discuss Nagoya University’s long-running collaboration with France. Exchanges span student and researcher mobility, French language and literature, plasma-based agriculture, and biomedical research. Bressaud concluded his visit at the aerospace engineering control systems laboratory, hosted by Professor Susumu Hara.
Nagoya University will welcome a delegation from the University of Lille in late October.
