Masaharu Shibata — president of the Nagoya University Alumni Association and special advisor at NGK Co., Ltd — has gifted 100,000 company shares to Nagoya University, marking the first instance that Nagoya University has received a gift of this kind. The donation was given in support of Nagoya University’s 90th anniversary fundraising campaign, “Move NExT’90.” Nagoya University presented Shibata with a letter of gratitude at a ceremony held on September 15, 2026.

Nagoya University will inaugurate a new fund in Masaharu Shibata’s name, utilizing dividend income from the shares as a continuous source of funding for its education and research activities.
At the ceremony, Shibata expressed his hope that the funds will support an array of initiatives at Nagoya University, for example, by providing support to students and assisting in the launch of startups. Expressing gratitude for the donation, President Sugiyama stated that Nagoya University will strive to be a university that inspires pride among its alumni and the local community.

Move NExT’90
Nagoya University launched Move NExT’90 — a commemorative fundraising campaign — ahead of its 90th anniversary in 2029. The campaign aims to realize a “knowledge commons” for the creation of our future society, as well as support the development of human resources and research activities that will usher in the next era.
