Nagoya University hosts international high school students for Sakura Science

On Thursday June 20th, 75 high school students from India, Taiwan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Maldives and Kazakhstan visited Nagoya University as part of the Sakura Science program. Sakura Science is an initiative of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), which aims to bring talented human resources to Japan and support international collaboration and cooperation in the sciences.

At Nagoya University, the students were welcomed by Vice President for International Affairs, Professor Norimi Mizutani, before visiting the Center for Low Temperature Plasma Sciences and receiving a lecture from Center director Professor Masaru Hori. One of Nagoya University’s unique research specialities, low temperature plasma has a wide range of applications from improved microchip production to chemical-free pest control in hydroponic farming.

Finally, Professor Matthew Linley, director of the International Communications Office, gave the students an introduction to the university as a whole and to the Global 30 International Programs, which allows international students to obtain a degree from Nagoya University whilst studying exclusively in English.
