Nagoya University to Open a Joint Degree Program with Kasetsart University on International Collaboration in Agricultural Sciences

The Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences at Nagoya University (NU) will be launching a Joint Degree Program, named the "International Collaborative Program in Agricultural Sciences between Nagoya University and Kasetsart University," in April 2018, with Kasetsart University in Thailand.

The Joint Degree Program aims to develop international next-generation researchers by establishing a unified degree program that takes advantage of the strengths of each university. This program is the fourth Joint Degree Program to be established by Nagoya University, following the program between NU Graduate School of Medicine and the University of Adelaide (Australia), the program between NU Graduate School of Science and the University of Edinburgh (UK), and the program between NU Graduate School of Medicine and Lund University (Sweden). Additionally, this will be the first such program in agricultural sciences in Japan.

Manner of Instruction

English will be used as the common language. The students must conduct research at the partner university for 12 months in the second year of the three-year PhD course.

Students will be provided financial support during their studies at the partner university.

  • We will begin recruiting students for the 2018 spring semester.

(2) Objectives

International studies focusing on Asia have been increasing, which include: (1) studies on scientifically understanding resistance to environmental stress factors, such as heat, high humidity, and dryness, in order to take advantage of their genetic backgrounds to improve livestock and poultry, and (2) studies on clarifying the coloring of fruits, and the varieties of useful phenotypic expression mechanisms and flowering control mechanisms, in order to develop breeds and cultivation technologies that will be adaptable to global warming. Against this background, this program is aimed at the development of doctoral human resources who have the potential to become future international leaders in these natural science fields.
