Minister for Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology visits Nagoya University

It was a pleasure to welcome Masahito Moriyama, Minister for Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to Higashiyama Campus on July 4, 2024.

Meeting with Nagoya University representatives

The Minister met with President Naoshi Sugiyama and other Nagoya University representatives, and discussed doctoral programs, strategies for increasing exchange student numbers, and Nagoya University’s key research centers such as the Institute of Transformative Bio-Molecules (WPI-ITbM). Following this, he engaged in a roundtable discussion with a group of international students, and Japanese students who have studied abroad.

Discussing internationalization and study abroad experiences with students

Finally, the Minister visited two of our research centers. At the Center for Integrated Research of Future Electronics (CIRFE), Center director and Nobel laureate Professor Hiroshi Amano gave the Minister a tour of the laboratory spaces and explained the significance of gallium nitride (GaN) research. At the Center for Transformative Electronics Facilities (C-TEFS), Center director Professor Jun Suda led a tour of the clean rooms that are used for Nagoya University’s GaN research.
