C2-FRONTS platform for universities and colleges in central Japan approves new industry-academia collaboration on semiconductors

On June 10, 2025, the 4th Presidents’ Roundtable of the "Collaboration and Co-creation Framework of National Universities in Tokai and Shinshu*" (C2-FRONTS) was held in Nagoya.

Technical colleges, which had previously participated only as observers, will now officially join C2-FRONTS as full member institutions. Accordingly, the platform’s name will be changed to the "Collaboration and Co-creation Framework of National Universities and Colleges in Tokai and Shinshu."

The roundtable included reports about the progress of the various task forces, about the Collaboration and Co-Creation Workshop held in March 2025, and about each of the technical colleges.

The members also agreed to establish a Joint Review Committee for the Promotion of the Semiconductor Industry in collaboration with the Central Japan Economic Federation. Going forward, this new committee with conduct studies on how to support the growth of the semiconductor industry, as well as explore topics such as how to promote industry-academia collaboration for developing and securing the necessary human resources.

The next Presidents’ Roundtable is scheduled for winter 2025.

Note: The terms "Tokai" and "Shinshu" refer to the region that includes Shizuoka, Aichi, Gifu, Mie, and Nagano Prefectures.
