The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has announced the programs selected for its AY2018 Distinguished Graduate Program (tentative translation), which include the following two programs from Nagoya University:
Graduate Program of Transformative Chem-Bio Research
Program Coordinator: Shigehiro Yamaguchi (Professor at the Institute of Transformative Bio-Molecules)
DII (Deployer-Innovator-Investigator) Collaborative Graduate Program for Accelerating Innovation in Future Electronics
Program Coordinator: Hiroshi Amano (Professor at the Center for Integrated Research of Future Electronics at the Institute of Materials and Systems for Sustainability)
The Distinguished Graduate Program is designed to establish integrated five-year doctoral degree programs based on comprehensive world-class education and research abilities through cooperation with external entities, such as world-leading universities and private companies. In doing so, the program aims to nurture distinguished PhD graduates with the best abilities in their sector — such as researchers leading academic studies globally, business people leading innovation, entrepreneurs playing a leading role in implementing their knowledge in the real world, and people leading policy-making in public sectors in Japan and abroad — and to create a platform that continuously develops and exchanges such talent, and expands new joint research, in hopes of promoting graduate school-wide reforms.
