How do you feel about Nagoya University?

Greetings to everyone! I am Wu Yen Lin from Taiwan, a second year undergraduate of Automotive Engineering in G30 international program. I would like to share about my campus life here in Nagoya University and how the environment here influenced me.

I think I am pretty lucky to join this program that broadened my knowledge including mechanics and mathematics, since I am fond of Japanese traditional architectures but I was not able to speak any bit of Japanese upon applying for college. Thanks to this program, I am able to study in English while immersed myself in Japanese environment and appreciate the beauty of Japan. It is first time for me to live alone in a foreign country and without the ability of speaking its language. Luckily with some knowledge of Kanji and the Japanese courses for beginners at school, I was able to survive and have a satisfactory life here in Nagoya.

In my first semester, we had a specialized course called Introduction of Automobile. Although the lecture takes place at tiring 5th and 6th period (16:30-19:30) on Monday, it was worthwhile for us to meet with lecturers from different backgrounds, such as the engineers from DENSO and a Chief Officer from Department of Design in Toyota. At the very last two lessons, we were asked to team up and disassemble then assemble one 1.5L DOHC VVT-i engine together, which is the most unforgettable part in the first year to me.

As a saying goes, "The dog equally study, the gentleman equally plays." As for students in school of Engineering and Science, we really have tough work and piles of assignment every week. I always spend my weekend time at home to integrate what I have learnt from the previous week. But of course I arrange myself a trip during vacation. For example, I went skiing at Takayama this winter break and travelled to Osaka this spring vacation. It is all because of the perfect location of Nagoya, popular sightseeing spots such as Kyoto and Gifu are accessible with JR or Shinkansen.

There is indeed much to explore here, either from life or studies, with people from different part of the world. So please do come and join us in Nagoya University!
