Professor Emerita Hiroko Tsukamura receives Prime Minister’s Award for Contributors to the Creation of a Gender-Equal Society

On June 25, 2026, the Cabinet Office announced the recipients of the 2026 Prime Minister’s Award for Contributors to the Creation of a Gender-Equal Society. Professor Emerita Hiroko Tsukamura (Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences; former Vice President of Nagoya University responsible for diversity and gender equality) was selected as one of the recipients.

Professor Tsukamura was highly praised for her long-term efforts in the advancement of gender equality. Specifically, she was recognized for establishing on-campus daycare and after-school care facilities at Nagoya University, making it easier for working mothers to remain in university employment. Nagoya University’s on-campus childcare facilities were among the first of their kind, prompting nationwide change.

The award seeks to promote the realization of a rich and vibrant gender-equal society by commending persons working in various fields who have made contributions towards gender equality over the years.
