Changes to the Guidelines for Activities at Nagoya University Due to the Increased Spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

I would like to wish a happy New Year to all students, faculty, and staff of Nagoya University.

I am immensely grateful to you all for following our Guidelines for Activities at Nagoya University and proactively cooperating with measures to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). As members of Nagoya University, you have represented the University well.

Since the start of the new year, the number of COVID-19 cases has drastically increased nationwide. A state of emergency has been declared in Tokyo and its three neighboring prefectures, and the number of infected people is rapidly increasing in Aichi as well. Yesterday, the Governor requested new measures to be taken to prevent further spread of the disease. At Nagoya University, we have set specific Guidelines for Activities and conducted activities according to these guidelines. However, in response to the Governor’s request, these Guidelines have been partially revised. The main changes are (1) to avoid travel to the above-mentioned regions, and (2) to expand teleworking and staggered commuting hours. These changes will take effect on January 12 (Tuesday). I ask that everyone follow these new guidelines as you continue your activities at the University.

Please act responsibly not only in your University activities, but also in your personal lives. To repeat our long-standing request, I once again ask that everyone avoid from high-risk activities, such as eating or drinking in groups.

At the University, we intend to keep track of the current situation and respond in the best possible way. Thank you for everything you have done and continue to do to contribute to these efforts.
