Nagoya University’s School / Graduate School of Economics hosted the “Students’ Workshop on International Development” on July 10, organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Held at the Symposion Hall in Toyoda Auditorium, the event brought together approximately 50 university students from across Aichi Prefecture, as well as representatives from ADB, Japan’s Ministry of Finance, the Aichi-Nagoya Committee for the 60th Annual Meeting of the Asian Development Bank, and the Tokai Regional Finance Bureau.
The presentation contest marked the culmination of several weeks of preparation. Starting in late May, students attended a series of online lectures delivered by ADB specialists. The program began with two introductory sessions on the ADB and international development. Students then selected one of three themes — water and urban development, small and medium-sized enterprises and entrepreneurship support, or health and healthcare — and attended an additional lecture on their chosen theme.
Working in groups of four or five, students spent the following weeks developing policy proposals. They presented their proposals to a panel of judges representing the ADB, the Ministry of Finance, the Aichi-Nagoya Committee for the 60th Annual Meeting of the Asian Development Bank, and the Tokai Regional Finance Bureau.
The workshop and contest were held as a 300-Day Countdown Event for the ADB’s 60th Annual Meeting, which will take place in Aichi-Nagoya in May 2027. Two teams from Nagoya University each received a Special Jury Prize.
