Nagoya University President Seiichi Matsuo Joins UN Women’s Launch of Gender Parity Report in New York

UN Women launched the inaugural HeForShe IMPACT 10x10x10 Parity Report on September 20, 2017, during the 72nd United Nations General Assembly. This report highlights gender equality efforts by HeForShe’s IMPACT Champions, comprised of 10 Heads of State, 10 global CEOs, and 10 University Presidents. In 2016, the Parity Reports on corporations and universities were released separately; this year’s report, however, features all the three groups: governments, corporations, and universities. In the report, 30 global leaders explain each of their specific commitments and show their progress toward the achievement of gender equality.

Nagoya University is the only Japanese university selected as one of the 10 University IMPACT Champions that are actively committed to HeForShe movement. At the HeForShe Parity Report launch event, which also marked the third anniversary of HeForShe movement, global leaders such as UN Under-Secretary General and UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and other heads of state from Finland, Malawi, and Romania; CEOs of Barclays, PwC International, Vodafone, and Electronic Arts; and eight university presidents, including Nagoya University President Seiichi Matsuo, gathered together to share with the world the key obstacles they have faced on their journey, as well as the innovative proven practices that they can now empower the rest of the world with.
