Nagoya University Selected for MEXT’s FY2017 ‘Initiative for Realizing Diversity in the Research Environment (Distinctive Features Type)

Nagoya University has been selected for the FY2017 "Initiative for Realizing Diversity in the Research Environment (Distinctive Features Type)," a support program for human resources development in science and technology established by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT).

In order to enhance diversity across research environments that will lead to the production of more outstanding research results, this initiative requires academic institutions to establish and publish their goals and action plans toward the promotion of more active roles for female researchers, based on the distinctive features of each institution and region. This initiative is designed to support efforts to improve the research abilities of female researchers and provide research environments that are considerate of the life events and work-life balance of female researchers, as well as efforts to more actively hire female researchers, to assist female researchers who have temporarily suspended their research or left their positions to return to work, and to promote the appointment of female researchers to senior positions. The "Distinctive Features Type" designation aims to support the cross-departmental efforts of individual universities and research institutions.

Nagoya University’s Efforts under the Initiative

  1. Increase the proportion of female teachers, including those in senior positions.

  2. Improve our research environments to be considerate of a healthy work-life balance.

  3. Enhance the research abilities of female researchers.

  4. Establish a platform to promote gender equality and improve gender awareness throughout our campuses.
