The Institute of Liberal Arts and Sciences (ILAS) at Nagoya University serves as the central body for planning and implementing the university’s liberal arts and sciences education. Leveraging Nagoya University’s comprehensive capabilities, ILAS is dedicated to fostering students’ academic abilities and nurturing a profound respect for human values.
Established in April 1995, following the closure of the College of General Education in 1994, ILAS has been instrumental in enhancing the quality of educational programs. It oversees the administration of liberal arts and sciences education, including devising plans, conducting evaluations, and ensuring continuous improvement. ILAS offers a diverse range of courses numbering over 1,900 and encompassing Common Basic Courses, Liberal Arts Courses, and Basic Courses for Specialized Fields. Through these offerings, ILAS aims to cultivate well-rounded individuals equipped with intellectual courage, rational thought, and imagination.
