NU Affiliated Lower Secondary School Student to Become Youngest Professional ‘Shogi’ Player

Mr. Sota Fujii, a second-year student of Nagoya University Affiliated Lower Secondary School, became the youngest professional shogi (strategic board game also known as Japanese chess) player at 14 years and two months old. He won first place in the 59th Shoreikai third-dan rank tournament, qualifying for the fourth-dan which is the point at which one becomes a professional shogi player.
