Nagoya University Affiliated Upper and Lower Secondary Schools have received the highest rating (that excellent educational efforts are being made at the school, that its research and development goals are expected to be achieved, and that further development is anticipated) on the interim assessment of secondary schools designated as Super Global High Schools (SGHs) in fiscal year 2015 by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).
In light of the current situation of rapidly accelerating globalization, MEXT is pursuing the development and implementation of high-quality, secondary-level curricula and the establishment of a system to foster global leaders capable of playing active roles internationally in the future by helping students to acquire internationally useful abilities, such as communication and problem-solving skills, in addition to developing their interest in social issues and providing them with well-rounded educations. As part of these efforts, MEXT has designated as "SGHs" those schools engaged in cultivating individuals capable of playing such active roles on any of a number of international stages in cooperation with internationalizing domestic universities or other entities (corporations, international organizations, etc.).
The interim assessment was made by the SGH planning and evaluation session collaborators (outside experts) based on the progress of each school’s research and development during the first two years of the SGH project. The assessment aims to provide the schools with opportunities to review the contents of their research and development, etc., so that they can implement the initiatives more efficiently.
