Distinguished Professor Hisashi Yamamoto was selected as a 2025 recipient of the Order of Culture. The Order of Culture is awarded to individuals who have made remarkable achievements in the advancement of science, technology, and culture.

Professor Yamamoto’s research concerns catalysts that activate reactions between substances, and he was the first in the world to propose research on chiral Lewis acid catalysts. He demonstrated their usefulness and established the new field of “molecular acid catalysts” in organic synthesis chemistry. More recently, he has been conducting research on peptide synthesis, innovating entirely new methods in peptide synthesis and screening.

The award ceremony was held at the Imperial Palace on November 3, 2025.
