For the purpose of accelerating the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in the real world, the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) in Japan announced on August 8, 2018 that it had selected six research themes that aim to use AI for improved productivity and in the medical field.
NEDO selected a Shimane University-based bio-venture, PuREC, and Nagoya University to receive the first prize in health, medicine, and nursing care. By combining image analysis with advanced AI technologies, Nagoya University and PuREC intend to develop a quality inspection system to improve the stability and efficiency of producing cells for regenerative medicine.
In an attempt to invigorate local ventures and apply AI technologies to multiple and different fields, Associate professor Ryuji Kato of the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Nagoya University will develop and verify the AI technologies which are to be introduced to PuREC’s regenerative medicine project.
