Nagoya University Professor Emeritus Hisashi Yamamoto has been selected to receive the 2017 Roger Adams Award of the American Chemical Society. This award, presented biennially, is the most authoritative award in organic chemistry among the various awards established by the American Chemical Society. So far, 29 scientists have won this award, 11 of which are Nobel laureates. Prof. Yamamoto is only the second Japanese scientist to receive this award, after Nagoya University Distinguished Professor Ryoji Noyori.
Prof. Yamamoto has been engaged in research of catalysts that activate reactions between substances, and proposed research of Chiral Lewis acid catalysts ahead of anyone else in the world. He demonstrated its effectiveness and established a new field in the synthetic organic chemistry — molecular acid catalysts.
The award ceremony will be held in San Francisco on April 4, 2017.
