Professor Isamu Akasaki Awarded Order of Culture

University Professor Akasaki

University Professor Isamu Akasaki was awarded the Order of Culture and the Person of Cultural Merit designation for 2011.

The Order of Culture is awarded to those making major major achievements in developing and improving scientific technology and culture. Professor Akasaki is receiving the Order of Culture for his success in creating the world’s first high-brightness blue-light emitting diode after 20 years of hard work and ongoing research, and for contributing to the practical applications of the diode.

The Order of Culture award ceremony took place on Thursday, November 3rd, 2011 at the Matsu-no-Ma at the Imperial Palace.
