English language requirements
G30 International Programs (taught entirely in English)
For undergraduate and graduate degree programs taught entirely in English:
- English proficiency test is required for most applicants
- Exemption is available for students who completed four or more consecutive years of secondary education where English was the primary language of instruction
- Accepted tests include:
- TOEFL
- IELTS
- Duolingo English Test
- No Japanese proficiency is required for admission to these programs

Exchange programs (NUPACE)
For exchange students participating in the Nagoya University Program for Academic Exchange:
- No Japanese language requirement to participate
- English proficiency requirement for non-native English speakers:
- TOEFL: 550 (CBT=213; iBT=79)
- TOEIC: 730
- IELTS: overall band score of 5.5
- Or equivalent scores
- Exemption available for students studying full-time at universities where English is the medium of instruction

Japanese language requirements
Regular Japanese-taught programs
For students who want to take regular university courses taught in Japanese:
- JLPT N1 level required (Japanese Language Proficiency Test level 1)
- Alternative equivalent qualifications may be accepted
Specialized programs
Intensive Programme in Advanced Japanese:
- JLPT N2 level minimum required for enrollment
NUPACE exchange students:
- Students with JLPT N1 may register for regular Japanese-taught courses
- Core NUPACE curriculum taught primarily in English
