On September 18, 2026, Nagoya University welcomed our 47 new students to the G30 undergraduate programs. Established in 2011, the G30 international programs allow students to complete their four-year undergraduate degree in Japan in English. At the welcome party students filled Mei-Dining (South Cafeteria) on the Higashiyama campus with sounds of chatting and laughter as they got to know each other, their senpais, and some of their professors.
During the welcome event, students took the opportunity to learn about the best places to hang out on campus, life hacks in Japan, travel tips, clubs and circles, and places to visit in Nagoya. They also received a short presentation on the activities of the NUFSA international students’ association and the NEON student dance group. Despite having arrived in Nagoya just days before, many students reported having already made friends and feeling at home.
Students shared some of the reasons they chose the G30 program. These included:
- Small class sizes which enable easy interaction with instructors
- The city of Nagoya – a “perfect place to study”, offering all the comforts and activities of a large Japanese city while being more laid back than Tokyo or Kyoto
- References from family, friends or colleagues who had studied at Nagoya University before
- A feeling that Nagoya University was “the right place to study their chosen field in English” while still experiencing life in Japan.
And indeed, the broad offer of Nagoya University’s fully English G30 courses spans automotive engineering, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, law, economics and the Japan-in-Asia cultural studies (JACS) program.
Beyond the party itself, students were reminded that this welcome is only the beginning of their four year journey. Academic advisors, tutors, and student associations such as NUFSA will remain close at hand throughout their studies and are ready to help whenever questions or difficulties arise.
