
Nagoya University Distinguished Professor Ryoji Noyori, recipient of the 2001 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, has been appointed President of the Japan Academy. The three-year term began on November 12, 2025.
Professor Noyori has transformed global chemical research through his research on asymmetric synthesis reactions, making significant contributions to the advancement of science and technology. In recognition of these achievements, Professor Noyori was awarded the Order of Culture and has served in prominent roles, including President of RIKEN. This appointment marks another distinguished honor in an exceptional career.
The Japan Academy, established in 1879 and renamed in 1947, is a special institution under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). Its mission is to honor scientists with outstanding academic achievements and to promote the advancement of scholarly research.
