Welcome party brings international students together at Nagoya University

On October 24, 2025, over 230 students gathered at Toyoda Auditorium for a party welcoming new international students. The evening brought students together over food, drinks, and entertainment, with various student clubs performing and setting up booths where attendees could learn more about getting involved on campus. A demonstration by the sumo club took guests by surprise and proved to be an unexpected highlight of the night.

The festivities culminated in a dramatic rock-paper-scissors tournament for coveted Nagoya University t-shirts, with finalists tying for several rounds before a winner finally emerged. The event was made possible by student workers, donning “happi” coats in university green, who helped ensure everything ran smoothly. After weeks of navigating a new country and a new academic system, the party gave new students something they badly needed: a chance to make new friends and start feeling at home at Nagoya University.
