Nagoya University recently hosted an inspiring and vibrant Africa Day celebration, an event that united students, faculty, and community members to honor the rich cultural heritage of the African continent.
Organized by the African Students Association of Nagoya University (ASANU) in collaboration with the International Affairs Department, the celebration was a resounding success and left a lasting impression on all attendees. The event was generously sponsored by the Nagoya University Alumni Association (NUAL) and expertly coordinated by the Global Engagement Center (GEC) Support team.
The program commenced with a warm opening speech by the Master of Ceremonies, setting an enthusiastic tone for the afternoon. Nagoya University’s Vice President for International Affairs, Norimi Mizutani, officially opened the event with an insightful address, highlighting the importance of cultural exchange and diversity within the university community.
Following the official opening, ASANU President Gerald Chizonda delivered a heartfelt speech, emphasizing the significance of Africa Day and the role of African students in enriching the cultural fabric of Nagoya University. His words resonated deeply with the audience, fostering a sense of unity and pride.
The celebration continued with a captivating African video presentation by ASANU, providing a visual journey through the continent’s diverse cultures and landscapes. This was followed by a spectacular fashion show, where models showcased traditional African attire, eliciting admiration and applause from the crowd.
Adding to the cultural exchange, the Nagoya University Koto Club mesmerized the audience with a beautiful Japanese music performance, bridging the gap between African and Japanese traditions. This was followed by an energetic African music and dance session featuring the dynamic rhythms of Djembe, which had everyone swaying to the beats.
Monicah’s Bounce then took the stage, delivering a powerful African music performance that captivated everyone present. The event concluded with closing remarks by an ASANU representative and the MC, summarizing the day’s events and expressing gratitude to all participants.
The celebration concluded on a high note with a vibrant networking session, where attendees enjoyed delicious African cuisine catered by Jollof Kitchen Nagoya. This gathering provided a wonderful opportunity for participants to connect, share experiences, and discuss potential future collaborations.
Overall, the Africa Day celebration at Nagoya University was a remarkable event that not only celebrated African culture but also strengthened the bonds within the university community.
