The selection results for proposals for the 2005 Initiative for Attractive Graduate School Education will be announced on Tues. October 25. Four of the programs the University submitted for acceptance were selected. These are outlined in the table below.

Launched in FY2005, the Initiative for Attractive Graduate School Education is based on the New Era Graduate School Education proposal advanced by the Central Education Council in its interim report released on June 13, 2005. The initiative was launched in response to new needs in contemporary society for strengthening the capability for training creative young researchers. The initiative prioritizes supporting efforts for developing highly motivated and creative researchers and for promoting qualitative improvements in graduate education.
The applications were based on doctoral courses (only courses set up as programs, categories, and 3-year doctoral programs) established at national, public and private universities and graduate schools for ongoing educational research efforts aimed at training researchers. This included courses designed to foster the development of researchers in new educational programs in such fields as human studies, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, agriculture, and medicine. Applications for 338 programs were submitted by national public and private graduate schools. After applications were reviewed, 97 programs were selected, including programs submitted by Nagoya University graduate schools. Of the 97 chosen, 35 were in the Humanities and Social Sciences field, 43 were in the natural sciences, engineering, and agriculture fields, and 19 were in medicine.
