Distinguished Professor Kazuo Shinozaki receives Japan Academy Prize

Nagoya University Distinguished Professor Kazuo Shinozaki has been awarded the Japan Academy Prize for his research into how plants acquire tolerances to environmental stresses.

Professor Shinozaki, a plant molecular biologist, received his PhD from the Nagoya University Graduate School of Science in 1979 and was assistant professor at the Nagoya University Center for Gene Research from 1986 to 1989. He was later made Distinguised Professor, an honor which has been bestowed upon only 19 researchers in the history of the university.

The Japan Academy Prize, first awarded in 1911, is "awarded to persons who have achieved notable research landmarks or who have authored particularly outstanding academic papers or books".
