Researcher BESSHO Kanako of the Nagoya University Bioscience and Biotechnology Center is one of the recipients of the 12th L’Oréal-UNESCO Award for Women in Science (Japan) Research Encouragement Award.

This award was established in November 2005 by NIHON L’ORÉAL K.K. in cooperation with the Japanese National Commission for UNESCO, with the aim of encouraging young female scientists to continue their research activities at research or educational institutions within the country.

Researcher Bessho’s prize-winning research concerns "the clarification of causes for the loss of awns in cultivated rice, and the effective use of awns in breeding."
