Drs. Tsuneko Okazaki, Shigefumi Mori, and Syukuro Manabe Selected to Receive Order of Culture

University Professors of Nagoya University, Tsuneko Okazaki and Shigefumi Mori, as well as former Distinguished Invited Professor of Nagoya University, Syukuro Manabe, have been selected to receive the 2021 Order of Cultural Merit, according to an announcement by the Japanese government on October 26, 2021. Dr. Manabe will also be honored as Persons of Cultural Merit.

The Order of Cultural Merit is awarded to persons who have made remarkable achievements in developing and improving scientific technology and culture, while the Persons of Cultural Merit, one of the nation’s highest honors second to the Order of Cultural Merit, is awarded to persons who have made a significant contribution to the development and enrichment of culture in Japan.

The Order of Culture award ceremony will be held at the Imperial Palace on November 3 while the Persons of Culture award ceremony will be held at a hotel in Tokyo on November 4.
