Designated Associate Prof. Hiroyuki Seto to Receive FY2016 Award for the Promotion of Studies on Developing Countries from IDE-JETRO

Designated Associate Professor Hiroyuki Seto (Asian Satellite Campuses Institute and Graduate School of Law) at Nagoya University has been selected to receive the 37th (FY2016) Award for the Promotion of Studies on Developing Countries by the Institute of Developing Economies of the Japan External Trade Organization (IDE-JETRO) for his publication, "Center-Local Relationship in Lao PDR: Local Administration of Provincial Governor under the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party" (Kyoto University Press, 2015).

This award was established to improve the quality of studies conducted by researchers in the Social Sciences and other related fields regarding developing countries and contribute to the promotion of such studies. The award-winning publication was selected from amongst 31 books published during one year, from January to December 2015. It was his meticulous long-term collection and analysis of data that served as the basis for the high evaluations, with the IDE-JETRO stating that "His incredible persistence in conducting repeated hearings to reach the truth in a situation where there was an overwhelming lack of public publications deserves the highest commendations."

The award ceremony and the award-winner’s lecture (about 30 minutes) will be held on July 1 (Fri) 2016, from 2 p.m. at the IDE-JETRO.
