Housing for International Students
There are three Nagoya University residences available to international students: Foreign Students House (Ryugakusei Kaikan), International Residence, and International Ohmeikan House.
The period of residency in each residence is limited to 6 months.

Housing for International Researchers
There are six Nagoya University residences available to international research fellows: International Residence Higashiyama, Researchers Village HIGASHIYAMA, Noyori Conference Hall, Idaka-cho Residence, Researchers Village DAIKO and Researchers Village YAKUMO.
The period of residency in each residence is more than 1 month, and limited to 1 year.

Public Housing
1.Municipal Housing
>>Application procedure:
- Lots are drawn four times a year (May, August, November and February). Application forms for lots will be distributed during the application periods at ward offices and the office called 'Sumai no Madoguchi' in Sakae. Fill in the form and send it by postel mail.
- Students can apply to join the waiting list anytime. Applicants on the waiting list must submit their alien registration certificate and other necessary documents at the time of application directly to 'Sumai no Madoguchi' in Sakae.
>>Eligibility
- Applicants should be Nagoya city residents.
- Applicants are required to live with family members (spouse / children). A single person cannot apply.
- Applicants do not need a guarantor, but a contact person for emergencies is necessary (The Joint Surety Service for Residential Lease by the Nagoya University International Student Support Association may act as your contact person).
- Applicants must join the International Student Housing General Compensation Plan (Ryugakusei Jutaku Sogo Hosho).

The apartment's bathroom is not installed with a bathtub and boiler. Their installation costs need to be paid by the resident.

Applicants must pay a deposit that is equivalent to three months' rent.

Company Housing
Some companies make their staff dormitories available to international students. Eligibility and other requirements are as follows.
- Company housing is available only for independently financed degree seeking students.
- Most of the company housing is for single students.
- Japanese language ability, familiarity with Japanese customs and lifestyle, and a willingness to mingle with company employees are prerequisites.
- Application period: Mostly in January for moving in April, but the time of entry varies. Information is posted on the bulletin board of each school.
- Place to Apply: International Student Exchange Division of Nagoya University (1st floor, ECIS)
- Interviews will be held after the applications, and sometimes the balance of applicants' nationalities will be considered.
- Applicants must join the International Student Housing General Compensation Plan (Ryugakusei Jutaku Sogo Hosho).
Private Apartments
Private accommodation is usually found through an estate agent.A deposit, key money (non-refundable gratuity money), commission, one month's advance rent, fire and housing insurance, common service charge etc, must be paid at the outset. Altogether 6 or 7 times the value of one month's rent will be necessary. In Nagoya, the average rent will range from 35,000 yen to 60,000 yen per month for a single room. Usually a guarantor is required, and students may ask the Nagoya University International Student Support Association to act as one.
Joint Surety Service for Residential Leases of the Nagoya University International Student Support Association
The Nagoya University International Student Support Association offers a Joint Surety Service for Residential Leases to international students enrolled in Nagoya University on the condition that students join the International Student Housing General Compensation Plan (Ryugakusei jutaku sogo Hosho) of the Japan Educational Exchange and Services (JEES).
The insurance period of the International Student Housing General Compensation Plan of JEES lasts one or two years. You must be insured at all times when you have a lease of an apartment.
