Nagoya University Students Win Inter-College Rowing Championship in Women's Coxless Pair Category

Nagoya University Rowing Club members won the first prize in the women's coxless pair category at the 41st Inter-College Rowing Championship, held between August 21 (Thur) and 24 (Sun) at the Toda Olympic Rowing Course in Saitama Prefecture. The winners are Ms. Maiko Sakakibara, fourth-year student of the Department of Applied Biosciences in the School of Agricultural Sciences, and Ms. Yuka Sekine, third-year student of the Department of Health Sciences in the School of Medicine, Nagoya University.

In 2004, the Nagoya University Rowing Club won second place in the Inter-College Championship in the women's double scull, coxless pair category, which at the time was the highest achievement in this championship for the Club. This year's first-prize title thus became the Club's first since the establishment of the Rowing Club at Nagoya University under the new educational system established in 1949.

The Ms. Sakakibara and Ms. Sekine pair also participated in the women's coxless pair category at the 92nd All-Japan Rowing Championships, held between September 11 (Thur) and 14 (Sun), and won second place.
