Nagoya University has been selected for the Top Type (Type A) category of the "Top Global University Project" of the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) with its proposal to be a "Hub university of Asia contributing to a sustainable society in the 21st century."

The Top Global University Project aims to strengthen the international competitiveness of Japan's higher education by intensively supporting universities that are making thorough efforts to carry out internationalization and reform, such as those conducting top world-level educational research, and those playing a leading role as a pioneer in promoting the globalization of Japanese universities.

The project is designed to support universities which have the potential to be ranked in the top 100 in worldwide university rankings, chosen for "Top Type" (Type A), as well as universities playing a leading and pioneering role -- based on their achievements and efforts -- in realizing the globalization of society in Japan, chosen for "Japan Leading-Global Type" (Type B).

Selected as a "Top Type" global university, Nagoya University will work to further strengthen top world-level advanced research, to create an attractive and globalized Nagoya University, and to play a role as a hub university in a growing Asia.
