Graduate School of Economics Professor Satoru Nakanishi Awarded Japan Academy Prize

GraduateSchool of Economics Professor Satoru Nakanishi has been awarded the Japan Academy Prize.

The JapanAcademy was established by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to provide incentives to scientists with outstanding academic achievements, and to contribute to the advancement of academic endeavors. The Prize is awarded to individuals who have authored outstanding academic papers or books.

Professor Nakanishi's award-winning research project was entitled 'The Capitalism of Wealthy Merchants: The Kitamaebune and Japan's Industrialization'. His work was the first historical study of the important funders of modern Japan's industrialization, and integrates research in modern economic history and early modern economic history, two fields typically treated separately.
