Consortium Promotion Office

Nagoya University has been proactively promoting international exchange and seeking partnerships with universities and other educational and research institutions overseas by participating in the following consortiums and collaborative networks.

 

Consortiums

■AC21:Academic Consortium 21

AC21 was established at the Nagoya University International Forum held in June 2002, for the purpose of building international academic networks among educational/research/industrial organizations worldwide. 18 universities from the US, Asia, and other regions are currently participating in AC21, with Nagoya University serving as secretariat of the consortium.

 

 

■RENKEI:Japan-UK Research and Education Network for Knowledge Economy Initiatives 

RENKEI was established in March 2012 to serve as a new international industry-academia collaboration system, building on the foundation of existing partnerships between universities in Japan and the UK. With the vision of "promoting the reformation of our social systems", currently 6 universities from each country, or 12 total, are engaged in the network. 

 

 

 

■MIRAI:

Set in motion by the Japan-Sweden University Presidents Summit held in October of 2015, the MIRAI project was launched to further strengthen the relationship and academic exchanges between Japan and Sweden. Adopted as a pilot project of the Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education (STINT), its activities started from 2017. Seven Swedish universities and eight Japanese universities are participating in the MIRAI project.

■APRU:Association of Pacific Rim Universities 

The Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) was established in 1997 as a network of leading universities linking the Americas, Asia and Australasia. Over 50 universities representing the Asia Pacific region are participating in the association, with Nagoya University joining 2017. APRU is the Voice of Knowledge and Innovation for the Asia-Pacific region. The network brings together thought leaders, researchers, and policy-makers to exchange ideas and collaborate on effective solutions to the challenges of the 21st century.

Collaborative Networks

■JUNBA:Japanese University Network in the Bay Area

JUNBA is a collaborative network composed of Japanese universities with offices in the US, created with the mission of supporting Japanese universities' internationalization, international human resources development, academia-industry collaborations, and other activities, thereby contributing to the development of research and education in both Japan and the US, as well as the creation of new industries. Their activities began in 2004 as the "University Liaison Council", which was later reorganized into JUNBA in 2006. Currently, 11 universities and other institutions are participating in JUNBA.

 

 

■JANET:Japan Academic Network in Europe

JANET is a loose collaborative network among the European offices of Japanese academic institutions. It was created for the purposes of broadly sharing international academic information between Japanese and German/European universities and institutions, providing information on educational and research programs jointly being implemented by Japanese and German universities and institutions, and contributing to enhancing international exchange programs between the two countries. JANET was established in 2015 and currently has 28 universities and institutions participating in the network.
